Our Priorities

South Georgia First

Not all sections of our state are prospering;

this reality is no clearer than in our South

Georgia counties. With only 47 of the 180

State House members coming from the

southern section of our state, our collective

voice is too often overpowered by our

neighbors from North Georgia. I will ensure

our district has the strong working

relationships needed to produce meaningful

results for our area. We have a tremendous

amount to offer businesses, individuals, and

industries looking for a place to call home.

We simply need to make sure we address

the challenges facing us, and that our voice

in Atlanta is putting us first.

Ensuring Safer

Communities

As a certified Georgia Peace Officer and a

current county deputy sheriff, Steven has a

unique vantage point when it comes to

ensuring our state acts to keep law abiding

Georgia residents safe from harm.  With a

district that has an international airport and

harbor to its southern border and an eastern

boarder that’s comprised of the Atlantic

Ocean;  America’s broken immigration system

is locally significant to families, businesses and

public safety personnel of this district . The

federal government must do more to protect

our borders, and crack down on those who

enter our country illegally. As a state, we must

do everything we can to support law

enforcement upholding our nation’s laws. This

includes working with local, state, and federal

officials to identify and deport illegal

immigrants who have committed violent

crimes, and stopping the formation of

sanctuary cities. I am committed to finding

solutions to the opioid and drug crisis facing

our region by working with local civic

organizations, healthcare professionals, law

enforcement and rehabilitation facilities.

Creating Better Jobs &

Opportunity

There is no reason for the economic

development announcements we read about

to be passing southeast Georgia. While

Georgia has become the No. 1 state in the

nation to do business, I want to see our

region become the No. 1 place in Georgia to

do business. We must develop better

partnerships between our local governments,

and businesses and those in Atlanta. State

government doesn’t create jobs, but it does

create an environment for job creation. My

No. 1 priority in the State House will be to

make sure District 180 is the beneficiary of

that job creation in Georgia.

Improving Rural Infrastructure Development

I will dedicate significant time and resources to the House Rural Development Council

on policies that promise to curb the projected $71 million dollar floodgate that our

side of the state is losing each year through job and population loss. We must seize

on the opportunity to make sure every school and business in our counties have

access to broadband internet, improved roads, and address the issues unique to rural

Georgia.

Developing A Working

Healthcare System

The current healthcare options in South Georgia

aren’t working. Rural healthcare is not working

in Georgia; from traditional emergency care

services to the availability of walking trails,

green spaces and playgrounds that contribute to

a healthy lifestyle, are being compromised by a

system that is developed by lobbyist and

businesses to work for major hub ciites like

Atlanta.  I will partner with public and private

healthcare providers, business and area

hospitals to push ‘rural reforms’ that are based

on private sector solutions leading to more

choices, better providers and lower costs.

Supporting our Military and their Families

As the son of a military officer and brother of an active duty Marine, my respect

and appreciation for all who serve our nation in uniform, and their families, is

engrained in my core beliefs. King Bay Naval Submarine Base and its supporting

missions are a vital part of our community. We must create a strong partnership

between local, state, and federal officials to help protect and expand the base’s

role in protecting our shores. I will work directly with our military officials and their

family advocates to better serve the unique needs of our military families and

retirees; both those here for a short time, as well as those who decide to make our

community their home.

Bedrock Conservatism

It is difficult to remember a time when our conservative values were being attacked

more than they are today. As your State Representative, I will examine every issue

through the lenses of a conservative Republican committed to protecting our shared

values. I will work to ensure every life in Georgia is protected from inception to

natural death. Our constitution is clear on the right we have to protect ourselves, our

family, and our property. No state statute or regulation should infringe upon the

responsible ownership and use of firearms.  As a Christian, I firmly believe our faith

must guide us as we confront the challenges facing us; I will stand up for the rights

of all Georgians who wish to worship freely.
